Launching Western Digital into the Cloud

With the data storage market quickly moving to the cloud and hard drive shipments on the decline, Western Digital was looking for ways to ride the growth wave of cloud data storage without cannibalizing their existing business. They recruited Mokriya to help them build a consumer-focused software platform that makes storing, finding, and sharing rich media content super easy.

PROCESS

With loose requirements and only a vague idea of what they wanted to build, Western Digital pulled Mokriya in to help define and direct the product strategy of a new cloud initiative.

We conducted an in-depth market assessment, performed user testing, and held innovation labs to identify core opportunities in the market. We identified five product areas that we wanted to explore deeper, then we went to work building a working prototype to test those areas.

RESULTS

In only 8 weeks, Mokriya had built a mobile app and desktop client that made finding and sharing life’s best moments a piece of cake.
The app aggregated a user’s photo and video content across all their devices.

Then, it uses machine learning and face recognition to categorize photo and video content. To make it extremely easy to share that content, Mokriya also built an integration with Alexa and an iMessages app.
